Ever since I moved here, I’ve been charmed by the bays, balconies and belvederes built onto many of the houses in town, each thrusting up or outwards, trying to sneak an extra glimpse of the sea over the neighbours. The curious flaneur might notice a telescope, a crosstrainer or, as I did today, a graceful harp furnishing these various lookouts. This unexpected glimpse of the harp sent me off into pleasurable imaginings of the wonderful coastal compositions that sight of the sea would inspire in me were I a musician. Perhaps it was this that made me more attuned to the music of the harbour masts as the wind plucked at their lines, making a cheerful jingle against the more sombre ostinato of the sea as it buffeted the shore on this windy day.
That's good because I had originally intended to draw in the masts in a more direct way, but decided that it just didn't fit in with the image, so it's interesting that you found them in there anyway. Thanks Liz.
The repeating lines all though this make me think of the sounds being made by the masts, the railings around balconies and also of the sea ripples.
